We created Afropup to help make pet ownership more inclusive. Afropup is a brand built on driving social change from two founders on different sides of the Atlantic. We provide support for pet owners in their journey. By doing so we help promote economic development, encourage mental health and wellness, and recreate the narrative of pet ownership. We do this while providing fresh designs and premium goods for you and your pets!
- Rhett and Leyou
We were founded at MIT but felt that entrepreneurial change could happen in both big-ways and small. America spends more on pets than the GDP of 46 African countries. We saw this singular statistic as an opportunity. All of our products are made in Africa, delivering sustainable jobs, economic progress, and empowering women businesses.
Africa has a large quantitiy of natural resources exploited by outside sources. We use premium materials like leather and textiles, traditionally exported to Western and Asian countries, and process them locally. We incorporate by-products and unused pieces from other goods into our products to reduce waste. Products like our beds are designed to redirect fashion waste from landfills.
We’re not just talking about our beliefs. We’re using our platform to help address the trauma of racial violence. We’re highlighting pet ownership as a means of supporting mental health. We donate a portion of our proceeds to HBCUs’ behavioral health and veterinary programs. Afropup is for anyone that supports our mission.
